Devikarumari Amman Temple is located in Thiruverkadu which is 2 km from Chennai Bangalore highway NH4 and 1.5 km from Avadi Poonamalle road SH55.
It’s around 10 km from Chennai Metropolitan Bus Terminus CMBT.
Devikarumari as a soothsayer went to Sun to predict her future. But Sun rejected her without realizing her as Devikarumari Amman. And, Devikarumari Amman got furious and disappeared from that place. When Amman disappeared Sun lost his brightness and charm, Sun realized his mistake and layed down of arms before DeviKarumari Amman and ask for forgiveness on his mistake. Devikarumari accepted it. Sun requested Devikarumari Amman to celebrate Sunday as the day of her. Also, to pay respect, Sun promised to send his rays on Devikarumari Amman feet twice a year in Panguni(March- April) and during Puratasi(September- October). That auspicious place is called as Thiruverkadu.
Thiruverkadu is situated in western suburb of Chennai. Devikarumari Amman temple is one of the oldest temple, around 1000 years. Devikarumari Amman is worshipped here in two characters and which in main sanctum. A swayambu (self manifested) with only head visible above the ground and another character is in a graceful sitting posture with all Parasakthi features,with four arms holding powerful weapons.
Devi Karumariamman worshiped as snake in this temple . And, its one of the famous place for Raaghu and Kedhu Dosha Pariharam.
